The impact of hate
What impact do these ill-conceived perceptions have on a community’s level of engagement in society and how does it influence the way they move through their spaces and time? It’s difficult to sustain a string and healthy relationship in society – whether it’s campaigning against a hospital closure or for education rights – when you feel as though wider society not only feels like you are a threat to them but may also harm you or your loved ones, you are highly likely to retreat to your safe zone – home. This creates a cycle which reinforces the myth of people who are new or not white don’t engage in society, they don’t care about others etc., when in fact this is untrue and unfair, but the cycle of hate thrives through ignorance and fear.
Think of a negative perception(s) you have heard about a marginalised group? What did you hear and how did it make you feel? Why did it make you feel that way? What did you do about it if anything?
